Desiree Winans
I've suffered from arthritis and allergies since I was a preteen so needless to say I've been through the wringer of prescription drugs and doctors visits. All that changed in my mid 20s. I've been a student of natural health since 2005 when I began working in the nutrition department at Whole Foods Market. I left Whole Foods in 2009 and I'm studying Natural Health at the Naturopathic Institute of Mt. Pleasant Michigan.
Naturopaths are not Doctors in the "status quo" sense. If you went to a doctor and said," Doc, what can I do so I wont get Cancer?" Most Doctors wouldn't really know what to tell you. They'd probably advise you not to smoke, maybe cut back on fatty foods; But the truth is Doctors aren't trained in nutrition. Furthermore they are not concerned with Nutrition with their day to day patients. Doctors treat diseases and symptoms of diseases. They are the triage for when the "fit has truly hit the shan."
A Naturopath treats the cause of disease. If you have Cancer, Heart Disease, or Diabetes, chances are you haven't been eating the right foods for your body to thrive. These diseases don't normally exist in the healthy body. But all of them are 100% curable with diet, body work, emotional health and the right attitude. A Naturopath will keep you out of the doctors office; which is were most of us prefer to be.
I teach classes once a month on various natural health topics. Although I'm a student I am well versed in eating a TRUE natural diet, natural cooking, baking, gluten free baking and low sugar and dairy free diets. I educate people in herbalism and herbalism for children, detoxification, environmental toxicity, organics, DIY, healthy fats that heal vs. fats that kill, pH balance eating, community garden and local food sourcing and more:)
