Letter From Kashi Regarding GMO Allegations

Below is the (very scripted) letter from Kashi to my contact in the grocery department at a local Whole Foods Market here in Michigan. He knew nothing about the allegations that Kashi's products (that are NOT organic) contain mostly GMO soy by a recent report from the Cornocopia Institute (a food watchdog organization). (read the full report here.)

He said he would look into it and get back to me. He responded same day (thank you!) with a email from Kashi. It doesn't seem to me that it answered any of MY questions and I'm not sure if it answered my contacts questions either.

Dinner For One, a la Veg!

Well the hubs is eating out tonight so what's a girl to do? I want to eat healthy but I don't want a big production. I'm thinking organic garnet yams and a gigantic salad drizzled with my Herbal Hemp Dressing. PLUS- the first decent tomato since last fall. It even smelled like a tomato!

The garnet yam was sliced in two and covered in organic grass fed butter. Then taking rosemary I grew last summer and placing it in the palm of my hand, I grind by pressing and rubbing it between my palms. Don't be shy with that rosemary- I don't think there is any better flavor in the world!

Bake the yam at 400º for 40 minutes and you'll have perfection- wrap it in tin foil to keep it nice and moist. I ate my salad while I cooked the yam, it couldn't have been easier and the nutrition is off the charts! Fiber, vitamins, minerals- Yams are a great source of B Vitamins and they are a complex carb which it a slow release into the blood stream and VERY satisfying.

Everyday is Earth Day to Me

My husband just informed me that it was earth day. I had no idea. I paused a moment and replied to him, "Everyday is Earth Day to me"

I did feel bad for a half a second, not knowing it was Earth Day. If I'm such a modern hippie, shouldn't I be counting the days?

But then I realized that I try to go above and beyond everyday to reduce my consumption of goods. I reuse everything I can (almost to a fault- ask my husband), from Kombucha bottles to plastic produce bags. We've gotten it down to a science recycling far more trash than we throw away putting 1 trash bag out every 2 weeks (thanks to compost).

We use absolutely no chemical products to clean, spray or scrub- it's either vinegar, baking soda or castille soap (or a combination of all three). All of our shampoos, soaps and detergents are biodegradable- which is more important to me than ever as we MUST protect the fresh water supply. I think someday, it will be fought for- tooth and nail.

Dr. Brownstein Article: The ADA Wants To Call the Shots on Your Nutritional Advice

Updated on Friday, April 27, 2012 by Registered CommenterDesiree Winans

Dr. David BrownsteinThe American Dietetic Association (ADA) is trying to pass legislature (in fact they actually already have here in Michigan) that broadens the scope of their practice and makes it illegal for anyone that is not a dietitian to give advice on the subject. I read an article written by Dr. David Brownstein, famous naturally-minded MD in Michigan which promted this post.

Let's look at the facts: We have a nation of over-weight, diabetic, heart disease, and cancer infested citizens. I think the dietitians and the MD's have done quite enough, thank you. I am certain that I can't lump them all together. No offense to a naturally minded dietitian or MD- please don't misunderstand my position. I just happen to know that most MD's, and Dietitians don't give the greatest advice when it comes to the consumption of

Post Weekend Natural High

I just had another amazing weekend up at my Naturopathic College. I learned lymphatic drainage massage, infant massage & pregnant mother massage- it was awesome!

The lymphatic drainage massage was intense! I underestimated the potential for detox there! I felt terrible on & off for about 24 hours during the weekend at class. Eek!

Lots of water a few days before, during & a few days after the massage would have increased the benefit to my body & lessened detox symptoms. Symptoms of tissue detox include weakness, dizziness, nausea, negative emotions, & even flu-like symptoms! ALWAYS drink water for any sort of body work, but especially lymphatic drainage massage.

Then I came home to this beautiful arrangement blossoming on the table from a friend... Welcome home! Am I a lucky girl or what?!?! I get to go learn about what I love, help people and get love from all around. I'm blessed beyond belief.

Bee Venom Therapy Is Working For My Mom- So Far, So Good.

My beautiful Mother:)

I'm happy to report that in under 2 months of consistent Bee Venom Therapy (BVT), my Mother is completely off her meds (2 weeks now) & doing really, really well. She is working her arse off for it!

She's stinging 20-25 stings 3 times a week, taking bee propolis, raw honey, bee pollen & royal jelly daily. This regiment is NO JOKE! What a commitment on her part, I'm so proud of her. It hasn't all been a bed of roses though. She broke out in hives head to toe on sting number 10. We decreased to 8 stings the next session and then started climbing again with no recurrence of the hives (thank God). The stings leave tiny scars here and there which she hates, and of course, it is painful sometimes- but it's a small price to pay to have use of her hands without medicines that will no doubt kill her. She wakes the day after her sessions feeling terrific! It's a miracle.
