The Skin Doesn't Lie

On the right is grass fed butter, golden and beautiful. On left is regular store bought..no color at all indicating it's lack of vitamin A and other minerals. Psoriasis, Eczema, Dry Skin & all other skin conditions are a sign of what is happening within us.

My professor always says, "Dry Skin, means a dry colon". Then she'll bang her fists on the podium and say, "You gotta eat more butter!!!" I may be exaggerating a bit about the banging on the podium, but everything else is as true as can be. We are a nation starved of the good fats, and drowning in the bad ones. Let's start there; With FAT. Wonderful, P.H.A.T., fat, fatty fatter-son FAT!  :) It's not a dirty word, it's vital for the health of our brains, digestion and skin.

Begin a regiment of healthy fats like fish oil, hemp oil, or flax oil for any skin condition. All will do but I personally prefer hemp oil because it has a nice ratio of omega 3's to omega 6's.

Let me explain: We in America get plenty of 6 (or at least most of the population does) as it's found in most commercially used oils like canola, soy and cottonseed (3 terrible-for-you-oils) by the way. If you're like me and you avoid that stuff like the plague, you can still benefit from a healthy version of Omega 6 found in Hemp Oil. Hemp has a majority of Omega 3, which is not rich in the American diet. It's found in fish, seeds, nuts, chia seed, and yes Hemp seed too! :) Hemp Oil does not contain THC (I knew you were going to ask!), so no, it won't cause you to fail a drug test.

Consume 2-4 tbsp of Hemp Oil per day at the beginning, we want to get you stocked up! After 2 weeks of this you can cut that in half and maintain this amount daily. Healthy fats will "lube the tube", helping to moisturize the colon, and on a cellular level, make everything work much better. We live and die on a cellular level and cells desperately need fats- Give em' what they want!

We also want to get something in there that is going to help dry up the scaly patches a bit, foods rich in sulphur are very good for the skin and will help to accomplish this. Raw garlic, raw onions, or the Homeopathic remedy Kali Sulph would be excellent for the skin.

Homeopathic cell salt Kali Sulph is recommended for all sorts of inflammations and it is indicated specifically for most skin problems. It helps build new skin cells where the old ones die or become damaged due to dysfunction. This is an inexpensive, wonderful option as they are around $7 at vitacost.com.

While your there, pick up a bottle of Homeopathic Silica too. This would be an excellent companion product for those with skin conditions. It is a basic nutrient for hair, skin and nails; restoring activity to the skin and aiding in the cleansing process, which helps to cure chronic skin problems.

It is possible that your dealing with some sort of yeast or fungal problem. If you suspect this to be true (or you can get to a naturopath to confirm or deny this), pick up a bottle of Pau d' Arco tincture. Pau D' Arco is strongly anti-fungal and works against yeast so this is a wonderful remedy when yeast inside is creating dis-ease, which is in turn presenting as psoriasis, eczema or dry, flakey and itchy skin.  A therapeutic dose of 20 drops 2 times to 3 times daily is likely needed.

Vitamin A would be very helpful as well. Vitamin A from healthy grass fed butter would be excellent. Try to get in a couple of tbsp of butter each day. I know it will be terrible for you- but try... (haha). You can also supplement with a naturally-sourced Vitamin A such as Carlson's Brand Natural Vitamin A 10,000 IU would be a good place to start. I've never ordered from the luckyvitamin.com site but this is what it looks like anyway and perhaps you can get it at your local health food store.

If you begin this regiment for several months with no change, it is likely that your gut is in need of some attention. Bowel cleansing, liver cleansing, weekly enema's, potent probiotics and healing herbs like slippery elm and marshmallow root all would benefit. We must get your intestines healed, functioning properly and cleansed so that the channels of elimination are open and working.

If you're struggling with chronic skin conditions, these suggestions may help. Working one-on-one with a Naturopathically trained practitioner is best to help you get to the bottom of the problem faster. This way we can Muscle Test the body, find out what is the root of the problem, and begin to correct the imbalance.
